Ann Hanchak, 97, of Carbondale, died Thursday November 15th. She was the widow of John Hanchak, who died in 1986.
Born in Carbondale, to a large family of 10 brothers and sisters, she was the daughter of the late Sam and Genevieve Chellino, who owned the former Chellino Hotel, Carbondale. Ann was perhaps best known as the matriarch of the Crystal Pines Restaurant, Crystal Lake. Ann was a wonderful cook and a hard worker. Her signature dish was undoubtedly her shrimp scampi. Many patrons would have loved to have the recipe but Ann even refused to share it with Bon Appetite, when the magazine requested the recipe based on the recommendation of several readers!
Ann was a devoted grandmother who was very proud of her family and cherished her three granddaughters.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Ann’s caregiver, Cindy Gallick, for her compassionate care.
