Donald G. "Dinky" Armstrong Sr., 89, of Vandling, died Saturday at the Forest City Nursing and Rehab Center. His wife is the former Margaret Sardinski.
Born in Vandling, son of the late Russell and Martha Painter Armstrong, he was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Forest City. He was a graduate of Vandling High School class of 1947. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of American Legion Post 524, Forest City. Before retirement, he served as the police chief for the Forest City Police Department for over 20 years. He was a member of FOP Lodge 63.
He was an avid hunter and a member of the Red Shale Hunting Club in Orson.
Also surviving are two daughters, Peggy Chesnick and husband, Joseph, Union Dale; Annette Lapera and husband, Frank, Forest City; a daughter-in-law, Denise Armstrong, Forest City; five grandchildren, Stephen and Ashley Armstrong, and Frankie Jr., Michael and Jonathan Lapera; four great-grandchildren, Bryce Armstrong and Rocco, Carmella and Gino Lapera; and a cousin, Fern Cornell, Forest City.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Donald G. Armstrong Jr., in 2015.
The funeral will be Tuesday in the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main St., Forest City, with services at 10 a.m. Interment, Sacred Heart Cemetery, Forest City.
