John Stephan Kranyak, 79, a current resident of Hazleton, and formerly of Forest City, returned to our Lord, Sunday evening April 14th at Leigh Valley Hospital in Hazleton.
Born in Richmondale, son of the late Andrew and Anna Dovin Kranyak, he was a member of St. John’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Forest City. A US Army Veteran stationed in Germany, John was trained as an electrical mechanic and received the Good Conduct Medal. He retired from a long career at the IBM Corporation in Endicott, NY where he enjoyed playing golf and shooting pool with his close friends. He also spent many memorable occasions at the family owned “AK’s Bar and Restaurant” in Forest City where he often visited with family and friends.
Surviving are his beloved Aunt Veronica Urbas; nephews: Michael, Mark, and Matthew Kranyak, and several other cousins.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers Richard and Andrew Kranyak.
The funeral will be Monday, April 22nd with funeral liturgy at 11 am in St. John’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Susquehanna St., Forest City. Interment with military honors will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Forest City. Friends may call at the church, from 10 am until liturgy time.
