Alice Spangenberg, 78, of Carbondale, died Saturday March 29th at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore. She was the wife of Edward Spangenberg; the couple would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary May 1st.
Born in Carbondale, daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Petcavage Jura, she was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, Carbondale. She was a graduate of Lakeland High School. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a clerk at Famous Fashions, Carbondale. Alice enjoyed spending her time with her husband Ed, and she especially cherished her time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Alice’s thoughtfulness, love and zest for life, especially her time spent with her family during the holidays will be cherished forever.
Also surviving are two daughters: Deborah Karausky and husband David, Vandling; Michele Gillette and husband Jeffery, Forest City; a son: Edward Spangenberg, Jr., and partner Jackie Kelleher, Bryn Mawr; six grandchildren: Joshua Karausky; Nicole Lasavage; Kacy Brewer; Kady Nicolosi; Kary Gillette; Nate Spangenberg; five great grandchildren: Iyla; Bodey; Everly; Arabella; Scarlette; one great grandchild expected in May, Baby Nicolosi; two sisters: Mary Ann Racht, Carbondale Twp.; Janice Sladicka, Carbondale; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law: James Racht; and a Sister-in-law and her husband: Ann and Al McGowan.
The funeral will be Thursday, April 3rd from the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. Interment, Saint Anthony’s Cemetery, Forest City. Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm.
