Allan A. Hornbeck, Jr., 69, of Forest City, died Saturday May 11th after a lengthy illness.
Born in Carbondale, he was raised by Velma Emmett Dempsey Hornbeck, Forest City, and was the son of the late Allan A. Hornbeck, Sr. and Frances C. Kwiatkowski Hornbeck, he was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Forest City. He was a graduate of the Benjamin Franklin High School, Class of 1973, Carbondale, and a 1987 graduate of the GM Dealership School. For numerous years, Allan worked in the family business, Allan Hornbeck Chevrolet on Main Street in Forest City, before taking over as President and CEO following the death of his father in 2001 until his retirement in 2017. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, who enjoyed being out in the woods. He was a member of the Richmondale, Browndale, and Sylcosan Hunting Clubs. Allan also enjoyed collecting cars and racing, especially demolition derbies.
Surviving are four daughters: Kristen Crisci and companion Jeffrey Hazen, Eynon; Ashley Franceski and husband Joey, Clifford Twp.; Sara McGraw and husband Sean, Pleasant Mount; Lauren Hornbeck and companion David Edelstein, Hartsville; the mother of his children: Marie Hornbeck; four grandchildren: Hailey Moffitt; Maddie Crisci; Weston Allan McGraw; Brayden Allan Fitzgerald; two brothers: Robert Dempsey and wife Mary Jane, Point Pleasant, NJ; William Dempsey and wife Connie, Clifford Twp.; a sister: Jeannie Dempsey and husband Vincent Carolan, Carbondale; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a sister: Kathy Dempsey.
The funeral will be Friday, May 17th with services at 10 am in the Christ Episcopal Church, 700 Delaware St., Forest City. Interment will follow in Canaan Corners Cemetery, Waymart. Friends may call on Thursday, from 4 to 7 pm at the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main Street, Forest City. All those attending the funeral on Friday are asked to go directly to the church.
