Ann Mary McDonough Cwikla, 63, of Dallas, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 11, 2026, where she was surrounded by her loving family after a long year of health complications.
Born and raised in Carbondale, daughter of the late Joseph and Helen Kelly McDonough, Ann grew up with a passion for caring for others. Ann graduated from Sacred Heart High School, Carbondale, and later from Misericordia University, being the first graduating class for the field of Occupational Therapy. She went on to build a fulfilling life. Ann made her mark working at Allied Services and proudly ended her Occupational Therapy career as a traveling Home Health OT with Pathways Healthcare. While she excelled in her career, her true joy was found in her family and her personal passions. She was best known for cracking jokes, giving out fantastic advice and being everyone’s mom when needed. She loved nothing more than spending time with her children, Kelly and Zach, her golden doodle, Ellie Mae and her future daughter-in-law, Deena. She absolutely loved watching the show, Say Yes to the Dress, listening to country music while sitting on her side porch, and celebrating Christmas as her favorite holiday. Her kindness, strength, and loving heart left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her.
She is survived by her two loving children: Kelly Cwikla, Dallas; Zachary Cwikla and fiancée Deena Gurnari, Shavertown; two sisters: Margaret Haggerty, Waymart; Kathleen Fennie, Dunmore; a sister-in-law: Sally McDonough, Richmondale; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her brother: Joseph McDonough; and two brother-in-laws: Johnny Haggerty and Michael Fennie.
The funeral will be Friday September 18th with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 N. Church St., Carbondale. Private interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill. Friends may call Thursday, from 4 to 7 pm at the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale, and on Friday morning at the church from 9 am until mass time.
Memorial donations may be made to Allied Services Hospice, 511 Morgan Highway, Scranton, PA 18508.
