Avis Moran Obituary

Avis Moran, 82, of Honesdale, died Monday November 1st at home after an illness.  She was the widow of Edward J. Moran, who died January 4, 2010.

Born in Carbondale, daughter of the late Martin and Gertrude Medland Judge, she was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish, Honesdale, where she was a member of the Rosary Group, a CCD Teacher, frequent worshiper at the Adoration Chapel, and volunteer for the annual block party.  She was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale.  She enjoyed going for coffee with her friends after attending mass; she also greatly enjoyed her outings with her dear friend Frannie Simon. She liked being on the go, whether to the casinos, her grandkids' many activities, or just a ride in the country for a treat. Nana's treats she loved to bake were blueberry muffins and banana bread which were enjoyed by all.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Regional Hospital of Scranton, Superior Home Health, Allied Hospice, and Drs. Delserra and Peters for the compassionate care given to Avis.

Surviving are four sons: Edward Moran and companion Kimberly Schandel; Dr. Martin Moran and wife Colleen, Mount Cobb; Patrick Moran and wife Kathryn, Carbondale; and Christopher Judge Moran, Honesdale; a daughter: Judy Smith and husband Bob, Castleton, NY; seven grandchildren: Justin and Sean Smith; M.J., Kaleigh, Brennan, Julia, and Ava Moran; and sister-in-law Sabina Moriarty, husband Joseph and family, Ringwood NJ, as well as nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Friday, November 5th with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Mary Magdalen Church, 416 Church St., Honesdale.  Interment will follow in Canaan Corners Cemetery, Waymart.  Friends may call Thursday, from 4 to 7 pm at the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale.  All those attending the funeral Friday are asked to go directly to the church, and all persons visiting the funeral home are asked to kindly wear a mask.
