Barbara J. Allen, 79, of Forest City, died Saturday March 25th at home after an illness. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Allen.
Born in Carbondale, daughter of the late Stacy and Helen Bucinell Gardner, she was a member of Ascension Parish, Forest City. She was a graduate of Forest City High School, class of 1961. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a seamstress at the Gentex Corp., Simpson. She had been previously employed by the Endicott-Johnson Shoe Factory, Forest City. Barb enjoyed crafting, especially plastic canvas, and she was an avid reader. She enjoyed attending car shows, showcasing her pride, a 1964 White Ford Thunderbird, which won numerous awards.
Also surviving are one son: Stuart Allen and wife Lynn, Scranton; one daughter: Dawn Cummings and husband James, South Canaan; five grandchildren: Brody Allen; Brandon Swartz; Michael Walsh; Jeffery Walsh; Shauna Cummings; three great grandchildren: Danika, Camden, and Kaylee Walsh; two sisters: Annmarie Janezic and husband Thomas, Forest City; Joyce Brooking, Pleasant Mount; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a sister: Mary Mindas; and a brother: Stacy Gardner, Jr.
Private funeral services will be held. Arrangements by the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main Street, Forest City.
