Barbara Jane Gliha Obituary

Barbara Jane Gliha, born on August 24th, 1932 to the late Carl & Barbara Yeager Nelson Jr., passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025. In a beautiful and meaningful coincidence, her passing came on the 16th anniversary of the death of her beloved husband, Robert “Whitey” Gliha.  Barbara was the last surviving child of Carl Jr. & Barbara and now joins her dearly missed siblings—Gertrude, Robert (Betty Jean), and Harry (Nancy) in eternal peace.

Barbara lived a life rooted in family, faith, and a deep commitment to service and learning.  She was a dedicated and active member of Christ Episcopal Church, and a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she built lifelong friendships and gave generously of her time and spirit.  Barbara’s devotion to the advocacy for deaf and disabled children lead her to testify in Washington, D.C. on their behalf, and earning her associate's degree in Early Childhood Development from Marywood University—a lifelong goal that reflected her passion for nurturing young minds and her belief in the power of education at every stage of life.

She is survived by her loving children: Saundra Murphy and Joseph Gliha; her adoring grandchildren: Natasha (Abram) Carlson, Nathaniel (Madison) Roeckel, Rachael (Michael) Everly; and her great-grandchildren: Judson, Arlo, and Madeline. Her influence, love, and guidance will continue to shape their lives for generations.

All who knew Barb are warmly invited to honor the memory of a woman whose grace, strength, and unwavering love touched so many lives.  A memorial service celebrating Barbara’s life will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, Forest City.  Private interment, Westgate Cemetery, Union Dale.  Friends may call at the church from 9:30 am until service time.  Arrangements by the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main Street, Forest City.
