Barbara Ann Price, 93, of Clarks Summit, and formerly of Carbondale, passed away peacefully on April 20th, in the presence of her loving family. Her husband of 63 years, Joseph Price, died in September 2018.
Barbara was one of thirteen children born to the late James and Mary Wengrzynek Moore, and grew up in Carbondale. She had a lengthy career as a registered nurse, most notably at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale and later as a private duty nurse for those living at home.
Barbara’s extraordinary life was defined by devotion to family, compassion and service to others, and her unwavering Catholic faith. She and Joe raised eight children in Carbondale. She was a longtime active member of St. Rose of Lima Parish in Carbondale until she and Joe moved to Clarks Summit when she became a member of Our Lady of Snows Parish. She was a regular Novena attendee at St. Ann’s Shrine Basilica.
Barbara was a kind, resilient, and selfless person who always put others before herself. And her wonderful sense of humor could lighten the mood in any situation. Barbara’s extended family and the many friends who love her will miss her deeply.
Barbara’s son Kevin was a devoted caregiver in her later years. The family would also like to express its gratitude to the dedicated, compassionate caregivers at the Carbondale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Barbara is survived by her eight children: Gerald (Lisa), Littlestown, PA; Joseph, Jr. (Jenna), San Diego, CA; Jane Strony (Greg), Dickson City; Rev. James, C.P., Jamaica, NY; Kevin, Union Dale; Patrick (Michelle), County Cork, Ireland; Raymond (Krea), Carbondale; and Mary Frazier (Thomas), Fitzwilliam, NH; three sisters: Elizabeth Loughney, Mayfield; Patricia Resine (John), Hockessin, DE; and Terry Talarico (Anthony); twelve grandchildren: Jonathan Bryan; Heather Brady; Ryan Strony; Olivia, Elijah and Ethan Frazier; and Cameron, Devan, Alexis, Audrey, Arianna, and Calum Price; four great-grandchildren: Lucas; Maelen; Corrine; and Samantha; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara was predeceased by an infant son: John; six sisters: Mary Moore; Alice Moore; Jean Smith; Margaret McDonald; Catherine Penska; and Ann Ryan; and three brothers: Joseph; Francis; and James.
The funeral will be Friday, April 24th, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am, in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 N. Church St., Carbondale, to be celebrated by the Most Rev. Neil Tiedemann, C.P., Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus of Brooklyn. Interment will follow in Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill. Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 7 pm at the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Ave., Carbondale. All those attending the funeral Friday are asked to go directly to the church.
