Betty Mikulak Obituary

Betty Mikulak, 100, of Carbondale, died Thursday September 9th at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale.  She was the widow of Joseph Mikulak, who died in 1978.

Born January 14, 1921 in Carbondale, daughter of the late Lester and Lucy Barrett Hunt, she was a member of Saint Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale.  She was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale.  Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a clerk at the former Ashman’s Pharmacy, Carbondale.  She had previously been employed by the Gentex Corporation, Simpson.  Betty was a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels for over 20 years; she also volunteered for Serving Seniors, who recognized her as “Volunteer of the Year”.  She and her family were longtime volunteers at the weekly St. Rose Parish Bingo games.

Surviving are two daughters: Ann Morris and husband Thomas; Catherine Mussari, all of Waymart; a son: John Mikulak, Old Forge; six grandchildren: Kimberly Tomaine; Keith Esbensen; Rochelle Coleman; Audrey Conflitti; Jon and Joseph Mikulak; eight great grandchildren: Kris, Jeremey and Adam Tomaine; Noah and Isabella Coleman; Mike and Paige Conflitti; Jess Esbensen; one great great granddaughter: Cathlina Tomaine; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers: Ronald, Gerald, and Robert Hunt; and three sisters: Blanche Chervanka; Dorothy Corrnuch; Cheryl Hunt.

The funeral will be Monday, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am in St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale.  Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill.  Friends may call Monday at the church, from 10:30 am until mass time.  Arrangements by the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale.

Memorial donations may be made in Betty’s name to the donor’s favorite charity.
