Brianna Elyse Demchak, 30, of Duryea, died Monday March 28th at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, after an illness.
Born in Scranton, daughter of Lisa Petorak Hedden and husband Brian, Waymart, and Brian Demchak and wife Melody, Forest City, she was a graduate of Forest City Regional High School, Class of 2009. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology from the University of the Sciences, Philadelphia, where she was a member of the Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority. She was currently employed as a Microbiology Specialist at Process Technology and Packaging, Scott Twp.
Brianna had a great passion for science, but especially for mushrooms, whether it was to go foraging for them in the woods, breeding and growing them, or drying and studying them. She loved all animals, especially her two cats, Baby and Burger, whom she adored. Brianna greatly enjoyed outdoor activities, whether it be fishing with her dad or camping with her mom. She cherished her Secluded Acres family, and she loved Dozy Road.
The family would like to thank the ICU teams at Geisinger Wyoming Valley and at Geisinger in Danville for their kindness and for their compassionate care for Brianna.
Also surviving are a brother: Brian Demchak and companion Alyssa Peters, Forest City; three step-brothers: Troy Hedden, South Canaan; James Howe, Meshoppen; PFC Justin Howe, Camp Lejeune, NC; a step-sister: Tara Lynn Hedden, South Canaan; maternal grandfather: Paul Petorak, Carbondale; an uncle: Joseph Demchak and wife Elizabeth, Carbondale; an aunt: Karen Oakey and husband Jason, Dickson City; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by a maternal grandmother: Carole Petorak; paternal grandparents: Joseph and Elizabeth Demchak; an aunt: Maryanne Ruby; and an uncle: Wayne Demchak.
A Celebration of Brianna’s life will be held on Saturday April 2nd at 4 pm at the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main Street, Forest City. Friends may call, from 2 pm until service time.
In honor of Brianna’s love of animals, memorial donations may be made to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, Clarks Summit, PA 18411.
