Bruce E. Rock, 80, of Lake Quinn, died Monday April 6th at home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Elsie McDonald Rock.
Born in Carbondale and raised in Jermyn, son of the late Edward and Helen Bruce Rock, he attended Sacred Heart Grade School, Jermyn was a graduate of St. Rose High School, Carbondale. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from LaSalle University and completed graduate work at Temple University. Bruce served his country during the Vietnam War as a Navy Corpsman, serving with the United States Marine Corps 1st Recon Battalion. He was combat wounded and field decorated, being awarded three purple hearts and a Presidential Citation. He was a member of the Special Management and Review Team for the procurement and placement of major weapons systems for US and Allied nations. Prior to his retirement, he was the owner and operator of The Stone House, located outside of Carbondale on Route 106, for over 29 years.
Also surviving are two sons: Jamison Rock and wife Julia, Havertown; Jason Rock and wife Jennifer, Horsham; a daughter: Diana Schumann, Tallahassee, FL; four grandchildren: Samantha, Lily Bell, Quinn, and Jack; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a brother: Joseph W. Rock; and three sisters: Maryann Sarr; Ellen Cremin; and Diane Kelly.
The funeral will be Monday, April 13th with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Sacred Heart Church, 624 Madison Ave, Jermyn. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Mayfield. Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 5 pm at the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale. All those attending the funeral Monday are asked to go directly to the church.
