Carl A. Harvatine, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on January 29, 2025, in the loving care of his family and the devoted staff of Barnes-Kasson Skilled Nursing Facility.
Born in his grandmother’s farmhouse in Creamton in April 1942, Carl was the son of the late Frank and Mary (Mitterer) Harvatine. He and his wife, Nancy Foster Harvatine, shared 55 years of marriage, building a strong foundation for their children on the family farm, Harvatine Farms, established by Frank and Mary and continued by brothers Carl, Paul, and Tony, earning a Pennsylvania Dairy of Distinction designation. A graduate of Forest City Regional High School, Carl dedicated his life to his family and the family farm in Herrick Township. He loved cows, especially Holsteins, and he would happily spend an entire day watching dairy competitions or going through the barn with the classifier. Carl was very committed to the ag community, serving on committees and boards for Agway, DHIA (Dairy Herd Improvement Association), and FSA (Farm Service Agency). Pop was enormously proud of his grandchildren for their achievements in agriculture, sports, and service to their communities. A staunch Republican, Carl enjoyed a lively political debate and sharing the news of the day. Carl was a member of Ascension Parish, Forest City.
In addition to his wife, Carl is survived by his children, Laura, Dana and husband Rick Empet, and David and wife Leigh-Ann; his grandchildren, Jack Harvatine, Joseph Harvatine and wife Aaliyah, Justin Harvatine and wife Larissa, Kaitlyn Kane, Alex Empet, Chelsea Empet, Aiden Empet, Ava Harvatine, and Bree Harvatine; brothers Paul and wife Susan, Tony and wife Sue; sister Louise and husband Butch Bonham; brother-in-law Charles Foster; sister-in-law Ellen A. Foster, as well as many nieces and nephews and his best friend Carl Robinson.
Carl was predeceased by infant daughter Jennifer, brother Frank and wife Bev, and sister Marie and husband Bill Westgate, and sister-in-law Ellen L. Foster.
Carl was blessed with the deep and abiding love of his family as well as the dedication and friendship of the staff of Barnes-Kasson Skilled Nursing Facility and Hospital; the family thanks the many aides, nurses, housekeepers, residents, family of fellow residents, and doctors who took care of Carl as if he were their own grandfather.
