Catherine Ann Wallace Obituary

Catherine Ann Wallace (nee Metzinger), 83, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 3rd surrounded by her loving family. Catherine was predeceased by her beloved husband of 54 years, William F. Wallace in 2018. “Kay” was a devoted mother to William E. Wallace and his wife Kelli of Whitehouse Station, N.J. and Michael D. Wallace and his wife Chris of Midland Park, N.J. and a very special “Grandma” to grandchildren Samantha Graber and her husband Nick, Billy, Jessica, and Emily. Catherine recently celebrated the Christening of her first great-granddaughter and namesake, Olivia Catherine Graber.  She was a dear sister-in-law to Jean Wallace and aunt to Rosemarie Broderick, Jack Broderick and his wife Kara, Edward W. Wallace and his wife Leah, Bryon Wallace and his wife Jes, and Walter Wallace, and great aunt to Diane Milleson, Joseph Milleson, Joshua, Grace, Brandy Speer, Marisa Seritsky, and Kaylee. She was predeceased by her parents, Harold L. and Nettie M. Metzinger (nee Scheffler), sister, June E. Metzinger, brother-in-law, Edward J. Wallace, and sister-in-law, Diane Broderick (nee Wallace).

Born and raised in Ashland, PA., Kay attended cosmetology school and opened her own hair salon after high school. Kay and Bill were married in 1964, and lived in OH, NY, and Pitman, NJ, finally settling in East Brunswick, N.J. where they lived for 27 years.  While residing in East Brunswick, Kay raised her 2 sons and spent many hours with children at the Noah’s Ark Nursery School. She was an active parishioner of Nativity Lutheran Church, East Brunswick, NJ in addition to many community organizations such as the Christian Women’s Club, East Brunswick Scout Troop #103, and the East Brunswick Elks Lodge #2370. She was an avid quilter and enjoyed being a part of a quilting group with her close friends. The group’s quilts are treasured pieces in the homes of many family members.

In 2003, Kay and Bill found their beloved mountain home in Thompson, PA, aka “The Ranch,” and once again found a wonderful community of friends.  Kay joined the Thompson Christian Church and loved the fellowship she found there. She was passionate about Thompson Toddlers, a program that she and Bill took over many years ago. Thompson Toddlers ensures children and their families receive gifts and food at Christmas. Kay continued her passion for quilting in her special “quilt room,” and enjoyed sharing her creative talents with others interested in sewing, including her grandchildren and her many friends. She was always doing “a project.” One such project was her work with the “Bag Ladies,” a group that makes sleeping bags for the homeless.

The funeral will be Saturday August 9th with services at 11 am in Thompson Christian Church, 586 Main Street, Thompson.  Friends may call at the church from 10 am until service time.   Arrangements by the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main Street, Forest City.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to “Thompson Toddlers,” c/o Thompson Toddlers, P.O.
