Cynthia Smith Obituary

Cynthia Louise Gertrude Smith, 62, of Carbondale passed away at her home on Wednesday, the 17th of November 2021, with her best friend Kelly by her side, following a hard-fought battle with cancer.

“Cindy” was born in Appleton, WI, on May 22, 1959, to the late Clarence A. and Kathleen G. Vanhimberger Smith. She graduated from St. Rose High School in 1977, and pursued a certification as a nursing assistant. After working in healthcare for many years, injuries forced her to find another passion, which was restoring homes and carpentry. Her love of the outdoors drew her to the campground where she lived her best life and made many dear friends.

Cindy especially treasured her times fishing with her niece Madison, patiently waiting for that big bite, then relaxing together by the campfire. When not outdoors, she found the time to take care of others, always willing to push herself and help them in any way she could.

Cindy is survived by her three brothers; Chuck, Wyoming, PA; Peter and wife Bonnie, Jermyn; Dave and wife Lisa A., Clemmons, NC;  sister-in-law Lisa N. Smith, Virginia Beach, VA; her very dear friend, Kelly Brundage, Carbondale, PA;  and also many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Susan and husband Sam Bilotta, sister-in-law Marianna Smith, and a brother Chris.
