David M. Brownell

David M. Brownell, 68, of Carbondale, died Tuesday August 4th at Geisinger CMC, as a result of injuries suffered in a motor vehicle crash on July 25th.  He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Joan Colosimo, who died November 10, 2023.

Born in Carbondale, son of Lillian Stawisky Brownell, of Carbondale, and the late Donald “Butch” Brownell, he was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale.  He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Scranton.  For many years, he was a self employed contractor and electrician.  He currently owned and operated Lenny’s Liquidation and 107-11 Mini Mart in Fleetville alongside his daughter Lauren.  He was a member of the Elkview Country Club, the Carbondale Stock Club, the National Rifle Association, and a former member of the Elk Mountain Ski Patrol.  He enjoyed sharing his love of music with his daughter Lauren.

Also surviving are his daughter: Lauren Brownell, Carbondale; a granddaughter: Piper Brownell; a sister: Linda Zefran and husband Dr. James Zefran, Browndale; nieces and nephews: Dr. Katie Zefran.  Dr. Marissa Nacinovich, Lauren Zefran Reidy, Jim Colosimo, Tristin Colosimo, Alan Bowerman, Kelly Gregory; and several aunts and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by a son: Nathan Brownell; and two brothers: Donald Brownell II and Steven Brownell.

In light of this tragedy, we ask everyone who knew David to please share your favorite "Punkin or Uncle Buck" stories with others.  He truly was special in creating memories.

The funeral will be Wednesday, August 12th, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Saint Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale.  Friends may call Tuesday, from 5 to 8 pm at the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale, and on Wednesday morning at the church from 9 am until mass time.
