David Michael Lazar, 88, of Simpson died on December 5, 2021 of old age. He was the son of the late Michael and Anna Lazar. He was married to Susan Bianci Lazar for 37 years before her death in 2009.
A lifelong resident of Simpson, David worked for 30 years at Farview State Hospital as a Psychiatric Security Aide, retiring as a supervisor in 1992. He was also a 60-year member and past president of the Scrub Oak Hunting and Fishing Club in Hawley, PA.
David was a gruff man, known to be short tempered. While his family and friends can confirm this trait, they also knew his big heart, good humor, and absolute dedication to his family. He took great pride in walking his granddaughter down the aisle at her wedding, shed tears with his wife, Susan, after beating cancer earlier in his life, and delighted in his great grandchildren. His love of family was best demonstrated by the remarkable care he provided Susan, at home for many years until she succumbed to Alzheimer’s Disease.
David had two passions - hard work and deer hunting. Regarding hard work, he tried to instill this in his grandchildren, with mixed success. They joyfully recall working side by side with him, getting berated (usually but not always good naturedly) until the job was done. They will forever miss it and him.
Regarding hunting, David boasted of shooting 103 deer at the Scrub Oak, and while the actual number will never be known, there is no doubt he holds the club record for deer and took his last buck at 85 years old. David was an institution at “the camp,” which will never be the same without him.
Surviving are two step-daughters: Kathy, wife of Ronald Ross, and Deborah, partner of Ivar Iversen; three grandchildren: Anthony Marcavage, husband of Whitney Rhoades Marcavage, Joseph Marcavage, husband of Kaleena Rosado Marcavage, and Leahann Trusky Moslak, wife of Thomas Moslak; and four great grandchildren: Jackson, Mason, Vivian, and David.
Additionally, he is survived by his sister Dolores Lazar Bailey, wife of the late Robert Bailey; niece Doreen Tullo, wife of Carmine, and nephews Robert Bailey, husband of Liona, and Michael Bailey, husband of Diane.
The funeral will be Saturday December 11th from the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale, with Divine Liturgy at 10 am in SS. Peter and Paul Greek Catholic Church, 43 Rittenhouse Street, Simpson. Entombment will follow in Our Mother of Sorrows Mausoleum, Finch Hill. Friends may call Friday at the funeral home from 3 to 6 pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research, FDR Station, PO Box 220, New York, NY 10150 or online at https://www.alzinfo.org.
