Diane Marie Ward, 66, of Vandling, died suddenly at home on Sunday October 8th. She was the wife of Kenneth Ward; the couple celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary on August 28th.
Born in Carbondale, daughter of the late Walter and Margaret Tarhanich Sample, she was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale and its Marian Society. She was a graduate of Forest City Regional High School, Class of 1975, and she obtained her Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing from Wilkes University. During her career as a registered nurse, she worked at the former St. Joseph’s Hospital, Carbondale, Ellen Memorial Health Care Center, Honesdale, and Wayne Woodlands Manor, Waymart, before retiring from Allied Services, Scranton. Diane was a loving mother and grandmother who adored her granddaughter Reagan. She was a very religious person who loved Jesus and prayed the rosary daily. She also loved her dog Cooper.
In addition to her husband, also surviving are a daughter: Colleen Ward Sullivan and husband Sully, Vandling; a granddaughter: Reagan Sullivan, Vandling; a brother: John Sample and wife Marlene, Vandling; a sister: Patricia Prince and husband Thomas, Vandling; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Wednesday October 11th with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. Interment will follow in Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill. Friends may call Tuesday, October 10th from 3 to 6 pm at the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale. All those attending the funeral Wednesday are asked to go directly to the church.
