Donald Paul Smith, 78, of Preston Township, died Saturday March 23 at his home after an illness. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Christine Kaminski Smith.
Born in Corpus Christi, TX, son of the late Clark Maynard and Mary Booth Smith, he was a graduate of Susquehanna Community High School. He went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree from Mansfield University, and later completed post graduate work at Elmira College, Cornell University, and the University of Scranton. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a teacher for the Elmira City School District, Elmira, NY. He was a member of the Elmira Teachers Association. Don enjoyed spending his summers with family and friends at Coxton Lake, and his winters in Naples, Florida. He also enjoyed riding on his Harley with his wife.
In addition to his wife, also surviving are two children: Jay Smith, Athens; Jill Smith, Cincinnati, OH; four grandchildren: Christopher, Savannah, Kale, and Jace Smith; and numerous neighbors and friends.
As per his request, private funeral services were held. Arrangements by the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main Street, Forest City.
