Douglas Allen “Duke” Campbell Sr., of Forest City, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday August 29th, 2025. He is survived by his wife of 38 years Cathleen Ann (Murray) Campbell.
Doug was born on March 14, 1963, in Morristown, NJ to the late Orville A. Campbell Sr. and Rose Grace (Caputo) Campbell-Defabbi. He was raised In Newark, NJ by his mother Rose and stepfather William Scott Campbell who he called dad. Doug grew up in Newark, NJ where he learned to work hard and play hard. He was a member of The Newark Angels and the Stuyvesant Crew that helped the elderly and others who could not defend themselves against Gangs. Doug moved his family to Susquehanna, Pa in 1993, and later to Forest City. He was an active member of Forest City Fire Department. He was a regular actor and set designer at the Acting Company Playhouse where he met one of his best friends Allen Benson. He also founded the nonprofit Holidays for Kids, where he would raise money and toys, so children in the area could have a Christmas. Doug was a butcher by trade and owned the Stage door café restaurant. He also was a cook and bartender at the Coal Miners Bar. But overall, his family was the most important part of his life.
He survived by four children and spouses: Douglas Allen (Matthew) Campbell, Jr. of Carbondale; Michael Anthony (Kristen) Campbell of Forest City; Rose Grace (Aaron) Campbell of Harrisonburg, VA; Michael Mojica of Florida; two sisters and one brother: Rose Mann; Emma Siggins; Joe Campbell; two grandchildren; thirteen nieces and nephews; and multiple cousins.
He was preceded in death by three siblings: William Scott Campbell, III; Orville A. Campbell, Jr. (Michael); and Carmen Campbell.
Doug wishes were not to have a funeral but a celebration of life that will be held at a later date. Arrangements by the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main Street, Forest City.
