Edmund Skarbez Obituary

Edmund R. Skarbez, 74, of Browndale, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday June 14th, after a brief illness.

Born in Carbondale, son of the late Edward and Helen Rebernik Skarbez, he was a member of Ascension Parish, Forest City.  Ed was a graduate of Forest City Regional High School, and received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Penn State University.  Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a lineman for NEP Telephone Co., Forest City. Ed also served as his mother’s devoted caregiver for many years before her passing.
A quiet and generous man, Ed was a dedicated blood donor for the American Red Cross, and was especially proud of receiving his 20-gallon pin.  He was an avid fan of all baseball, whether it be watching his beloved Los Angeles Dodgers or cheering on his grandsons from the sidelines of their little league games. He also enjoyed a good card game, especially poker.

Ed is survived by his friend, Mary Hubal, of Virginia. As well as his son, Jason Skarbez and wife Erin, and their two sons, Ed’s cherished grandsons, Luke and Jack, all of Mayfield; a brother: Thomas Skarbez and wife Joan; niece Kathryn Skarbez and husband Brian and their daughter, Claire Elizabeth, all of Massachusetts; a nephew: Richard Skarbez and wife Laura, Australia; and several cousins.

The funeral will be Friday June 19th from the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main Street, Forest City, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in St. Joseph’s Church, Delaware St., Forest City.  Interment, St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Forest City.  Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 7 pm.
