Edward F. Bannon, 82, of Carbondale, died Monday January 6th at the Green Ridge Care Center, Scranton. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, the former Carol Irving.
Born in Carbondale, son of the late Ambrose and Miriam Ryan Bannon, he was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Carbondale, where he was a member of the Vestry, a Funeral Acolyte, Verger, and Crucifer. He was a graduate of Saint Rose High School, Class of 1960 and he attended George Washington University. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving with the Air Force Police Canine Unit. Prior to retirement, Ed was employed as a letter carrier in the Carbondale Post Office for 31 years, known for leaving bubble gum and dog bones for the customers on his route. Prior to his career with the Post Office, he was employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. After retirement, he worked at McDonalds of Carbondale. He was a member of the Columbia Hose Company #5, Carbondale, and the American Postal Workers Union. His grandchildren were the light of his life.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Green Ridge Care Center for the compassionate care given to Eddie.
Also surviving are a son: Ryan Bannon and wife Randi, Carbondale; three grandchildren: Colin, Killian, and Kaci Bannon; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins, including a special niece Debbie Trzcinski, as well as his faithful canine companion, Mikey.
He was also preceded in death by his siblings: Joseph, Ambrose, Jr. and Robert Bannon; Rose Mary McCann; and Betty Ann Hunter.
The funeral will be Friday, January 10th from the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale, with services at 10:30 am in Trinity Episcopal Church, 58 River St., Carbondale. Interment will follow at Valley View Memorial Park, Montdale. Friends may call Thursday, from 2 to 5 pm.
