Edward Shipshinski Obituary

Edward J. Shipshinski, 90, of Browndale, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday May 21st at home. Edward was married to the late Theresa Steiner Shipshinski for 68 years before her passing in 2019.

Born in Herrick Center, son of the late Alex & Mary Babrawicz Shipshinski, he was a member of Ascension Parish, Forest City.  He left school after eighth grade to help his parents, who suffered from tuberculosis, run their dairy farm.  Edward was employed as a lumberjack from 1954 to 1956 at Rydzek’s. He was later employed at Aldenville Dimension Wood Products where he retired as plant manager in 1997. Edward knew the meaning of hard-work and instilled this lesson to his children and family.

Edward loved hunting, fishing and being outside.  He passed these passions down to many generations. He also enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Eagles and looked forward to going to the games with his grandsons. One of his favorite pastimes was taking care of his prized lawn and garden.  He could often be found riding the John Deere or sitting on his front porch socializing with the neighbors. Edward seemed to have the ability to fix any problem a family member or friend may have. His wife, who often felt like his personal secretary, would often laugh when the phone would ring because she knew he was getting a call for help.

Edward is survived by three daughters: Carolyn Olejnik, Stillwater; Patricia Tallo, Jermyn; and Deborah Matala, Greenfield Twp.; five grandchildren: Kevin, Daniel, Renee, Jessica, and Kristopher; five great-grandchildren: Rocco, Kathryn, Dana, Emma, and Olivia; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Theresa; two sons: David and Richard; a sister: Regina; four half-brothers: Alex, John, Stanley, and Chuck; and five half-sisters: Nellie, Stella, Helen C., Bridget, and Helen Y.

A heartfelt thank you to Ed’s grandson, Kevin, his wife Michaelene, and their daughters Kathryn and Dana, for sharing their home with him for the last few months of his earthly life. It was here where he received love and care until the very end from his devoted daughters, family, friends, and special caregivers: Joan, Jean, Carol, Lois, and Marion.

The family would also like to thank Father William McGinty and the parishioners of Christ Episcopal Church for their prayers, all of Edward’s medical providers, especially Dr. Tomazic and staff, hospice nurse Samantha, nurse Megan, and aides Nicole and Pat. Additionally, Edward’s family will be forever grateful to Phil, Chelsea, and Violet for being outstanding and caring neighbors.

The funeral will be Wednesday, May 25th with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am in Saint Joseph’s Church, Delaware St., Forest City.  Interment, Saint Anthony’s Cemetery, Forest City.  Friends may call at the church from 10 am until mass time.  Arrangements by the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main Street, Forest City.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be made to the American Diabetes Association in honor of his son, Richard.
