Elenora E. Opalka, 89, of Carbondale, died Saturday January 7th at the Carbondale Nursing Center surrounded by her five loving children.  She was the widow of John J. Opalka, who died in 1976.

Born in South Canaan, daughter of the late Edward and Esther Kowtko Racht, she was a member of Saint Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale.  She graduated from Waymart High School in 1951 as class valedictorian.  She was a loving mother and grandmother who took care of her family.

Surviving are five loving children: Marian Morris and husband Dennis, Waymart; Linda Duffy and husband Marty, Jessup; Kathleen Casella and husband Bob, Scott Twp.; Jack Opalka and wife Carol, Prompton; Thomas Opalka and wife Lisa, Carbondale; three additional sons: Edward Opalka, Mayfield; Michael Opalka, Waymart; Robert Opalka, Scott Twp.; 27 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; two sisters: Gloria Boss, Yardley; Joan Buchinski, Waymart; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters: Esther Zielinski and Mary Ann Racht; two grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

The funeral will be Tuesday, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale.  Interment will follow in Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill.   Friends may call Tuesday morning at the church from 9am until mass time.  Arrangements by the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale.
