Elizabeth “Betty” Hoyle, a lifelong resident of Carbondale, passed away peacefully at home on March 7th, at the age of 85, surrounded by her family.
Betty was born in Carbondale, to the late George J. and Eunice Phillips Swindelhurst Betty was an active member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Carbondale where she was part of the Women’s Association and served as a point of contact for the Church’s Prayer Chain for many years. She was also a member of the Weekly Interdenominational Prayer Club. She was employed at the 1st National Bank in Carbondale until the birth of her children. She later worked with her close friend Nancy Griffiths at Reynold’s Gift Shop where she was a decorator, buyer, and salesperson. Betty was also a long time member of the Carbondale News Club for over 40 years. She was an active member of the Carbondale community throughout her life and a dedicated member of the Carbondale Public Library as an avid lifelong reader.
Betty will be greatly missed for her warmth, her smile, and the great love she had for her family and friends. Her family wishes to thank Linda and Bob Fortuner, Ralph Hoyle, and Carolyn Race with whom she enjoyed companionship for many years. They are also indebted to her caregivers: Jodi Paul, Terri Collins, Rena Susz, Laurie Cerra, Nancy Scott and Darcie Novak, who all provided her with the best of care. They would also like to express their appreciation for the staff of Home Health Care Professionals and Hospice.
She is survived by two daughters: Susan Barry and her husband Tom of Bear Creek Township; and Beth Hoyle of Peapack, New Jersey. She is also survived by her three beloved granddaughters: Kate Barry and Julie Barry of San Diego, California and Jen Barry of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held privately for the family at this time with interment in Willow View Cemetery, Clifford, but all will be welcome to attend a memorial service for Betty to be held later this year. If desired, friends and family can make a memorial contribution to the Carbondale Public Library, 5 N.
