Ella Mae Stone, 87, of Carbondale and formerly of Ararat, died Friday May 27th at Allied Services Hospice Center, Scranton. She was the widow of Joseph David Stone, who died May 1, 2017.
Born in Stevens Point, she was the daughter of the late Scott and Sattie Sutton Slocum and step-daughter of the late Edna Wright Slocum. She was a former member of the Ararat United Methodist Church.
After living for many years on the family farm in Ararat, it became necessary for Joe and Ella Mae to move to an apartment in Carbondale. As more health issues grew, Ella Mae then moved to be a resident in the Carbondale Nursing Home, where she resided for the past 5 years.
She was a very avid gardener. In years past, if you attended the Harford Fair her name may be familiar to you as you walked through the Floral Hall; at last count she was awarded around 500 ribbons, some including Best of Show or Judges Choice. Her talents ranged from African Violets to beautiful embroidery to her black bottom cupcakes.
She is survived by two daughters: Nancy Jo Mitchell and companion Bruce, Peckville; Marion Wiesenmiller and husband David, Binghamton; four grandchildren: Patricia Livsey, William Mitchell, Eric Hilkert, Jeffery Hilkert; six great grandchildren: Liam Livsey, Aislyn, Fynlee, and Michael Hilkert; Shawn and William Mitchell; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter: Patricia Dubin; a granddaughter Rebecca Dubin and her 9 siblings: Ruth, Edna, Marion, Wilbur, Walter, Scotty, Harry, Gene, and George
Graveside services were held with interment in Ararat Cemetery. Arrangements by the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main Street, Forest City.
