Ellen Foster Obituary

Ellen L. Foster, of Union Dale, died at home on Thursday January 14th at the age of 55.  She married her beloved husband, Charles A. Foster, who survives, on November 16, 1985.

Born in Susquehanna, daughter of Althea Stanton Carvin, Susquehanna and the late Elwyn E. Carvin, she was a member of the National Honor Society and a 1984 graduate of Susquehanna Community Schools.  She was first employed at Matis Clothing, and after marriage, at the E.J. Shoe Factory, Acme, and Waymart Knitwear.  Before her illness, she was a long time member of the Forest City Regional Schools cafeteria staff.

Ellen was Treasurer of the Lyon Street Cemetery Association and with her husband and family, mowed and maintained the cemetery for many years.  She was a longtime blood donor to the American Red Cross and volunteer for the Union Dale Volunteer Fire Company picnic.  With her husband and family, she greatly enjoyed trips to Vermont, New Hampshire, the Finger Lakes of New York, and anywhere there was a lighthouse.

The family is thankful for the compassionate and professional care of Krista Hollis, CRNP, and Dr. David Tomazic, Forest City Family Health Center; Dr. Numan Fateh, Geisinger Community Medical Center Cancer Center; Dr. Christopher Peters, Northeast Radiation Oncology Center; and the deeply caring staff of Allied Home Health Hospice Care.

In addition to her husband Charles, she is survived by their sons: Lyle and Neil, at home; brothers: Stanton, Mark, Larry, and David Carvin; sisters: Marilyn Chandler; Laura Miller; Bonnie Wolf; Connie Lipko; Amy McConnell; sisters-in-law: Nancy Harvatine and husband Carl; Susan Harvatine and husband Paul, and Ellen A. Foster, who helped care for her as her illness worsened; and numerous nieces and nephews in the Carvin and Foster families.

She was also preceded in death by her parents-in-law: Dorothy and Al Foster of Union Dale, who considered her their fourth daughter.

Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in Lyon Street Cemetery, Union Dale.  Arrangements by the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main St., Forest City.
