Eugene L. Bensley, 91, of the Forest City Personal Care Home, and formerly of Hop Bottom, passed away peacefully at Allied Services Hospice Center, Scranton, on Sunday August 2nd surrounded by family. His wife is the former Shirley Scott; the couple had been married for 69 years.
Born in Scranton, son of the late Harold and Violet Jackson Bensley, Gene served his country honorably in the United States Navy for four years during World War II. Prior to retirement, Gene was a self employed mechanic in Hop Bottom for over 70 years. He was a member of the Kingsley Community Church and the American Legion Post 154, Montrose. Gene loved hunting and fishing with his pal, Charlie Pompey. Gene loved the Lord and was loved by all the workers at the Forest City Personal Care Home. The family appreciates all of their loving care for the last two and a half years.
Also surviving are four daughters: Bonnie Cowden and husband Earle, Binghamton, NY; Gayle Steele, Carbondale; Patricia Berry, Vandling; Kim Dragwa and husband Gary, Browndale; 4 grandchildren: Christina Raley; Christopher Cowden; Jason Sterling; Lindsey Dragwa; 4 great grandchildren: Brennan Cowden; Wyatt Raley; Rhylie Long; Aiyana Raley; one great great grandchild: Lily Moon Raley; a step-brother: Mark Bensley, Troy; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers: Walter, George, and Floyd Bensley; and a son-in-law: John Berry.
Funeral services will be held Sunday August 16th at 2pm in the Kingsley Community Church, 9526 Main Street, Kingsley, to be celebrated by Rev. James P. Madas. Arrangements by the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main Street, Forest City.
