Eugene W. Connor, 91, resident of both Carbondale and Newton Lake communities, passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 6th surrounded by his family at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, after an illness. His wife of 69 years, the former Joan Yanchek, passed away on August 1, 2023.
Born in Carbondale, son of the late Eugene W. and Loretta Grady Connor, he was a member of St. Rose Church, Carbondale. Eugene was a graduate of St. Rose High School, Carbondale and attended the University of Scranton. He also served and was a proud veteran of the Pennsylvania National Guard 109th Infantry where he retired as a Major. He dedicated many years of service to NCR, a global software, consulting and technology company, where he provided professional services and electronic equipment to businesses. Eugene was an avid golfer and former president of Elkview Country Club and served as an honorary board member until the time of his death. He lived life on his own terms with a strong will and spirit that was entirely his own. Whether you agreed with him or not, you always knew exactly where he stood and that is something to be respected.
