Francis Sarnoski Obituary

Francis J. Sarnoski, 91, of Carbondale, died Wednesday December 6th at home.  He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Grace M. Johannes, who died January 29, 2018.

Born in Whites Crossing, he was the last surviving child of the late John and Josephine Kozlowski Sarnoski.  He was a member of Saint Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale.  Francis was a graduate of Fell Twp. High School and Johnson College.  He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served with the 2nd Infantry Division during the Korean War, where he received the Bronze Service Medal.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 221, Carbondale.  Prior to his retirement, he was employed at Fairview State Hospital, Waymart, as a vocational instructor.  He liked gardening and traveling with his wife Grace.

Surviving are several nieces, nephews, and cousins, including his niece and caregiver Linda Grasso and longtime family friend and caregiver Kim Gregorowicz.

He was also preceded in death by six brothers: Walter, John, Charles, Valentine, and Thaddeus Sarnoski; and Lt. Joseph Sarnoski (A Congressional Medal of Honor recipient); and nine sisters: Nellie, Helen, Jeanette, Sally, Agnes, Victoria, Martha, Regina, and Matilda.

The funeral will be Monday, December 11th with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale.  Interment with military honors, St. Mary’s Cemetery, Honesdale.  Friends may call at the church from 9 am until mass time.  Arrangements by the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale.
