Frank Edward “Happy” Piorkowski, 93, of Childs, died Monday October 25th at the Carbondale Nursing Center. His wife of 67 years is the former Rose Marie Scorzafava.
Born in Forest City, son of the late Anthony and Josephine Frackiewicz Piorkowski, he was a member of Saint Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. He was a graduate of Forest City High School, and he attended the University of Scranton and Fordham University. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Happy was a member of the American Legion Post 524, Forest City. For many years, he owned and operated Cooley’s Stationary Store and Newsstand, Forest City. Prior to retirement, he was employed as a clerk for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board working in the Wine and Spirits Shop, Carbondale. He was a member of the Meredith Hose Company, Childs and a member of the former Forest City Bowling League.
Also surviving are three sons: Frank Piorkowski, Westminster, CA; John Piorkowski and wife Rebecca, Mount Airy, Maryland; Robert Piorkowski and wife Kati, Medina, Minnesota; eight grandchildren: Christina; Sara; Ryan; Adam; Kyle; Emma; Evan; and Will; two great grandchildren: Aubrey and Will; a sister: Sister Mary Josepha, Bernardine Order, Reading; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by eleven siblings: Thomas; Constance; Edward; Walter; Charles; Helen; Martha; Joseph; Chester; Monsignor Stanley; and Stella.
The funeral will be Monday November 1st from the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. Entombment with military honors, Our Mother of Sorrows Mausoleum, Finch Hill. Friends may call on Sunday, from 2 to 5 pm.
