Gerald ”Jerry” Nagoda, 63, of Browndale, fondly known as “The Tile Guy,” passed away on Thursday, June 26th at Geisinger CMC Scranton, after a six-month battle with cancer.
He was born on August 8, 1961, at St. Joseph’s Hospital Carbondale, son of the late Herbert and Vera Schlasta Nagoda of Browndale.. He was the first Nagoda son born in the family and cigars were handed out to mark the occasion. Known for his infectious humor and generous heart, Jerry had a knack for making people laugh and never hesitated to lend a hand. He was the kind of person everyone was grateful to know—a loving brother, devoted father, cherished uncle, and loyal friend.
For over 30 years, Jerry ran a successful tile business, proudly delivering top-notch craftsmanship and dependable service. Outside of work, he lived life to the fullest. He loved camping trips with his extended family and friends, golfing on sunny days, playing cards into the evening, and testing his luck gambling with a smile. During football season he enjoyed watching the Steelers play. He found real joy in the company of others and treasured time spent with the people he loved most. He loved Christmas in Florida with the family and could not wait to go this Christmas. He always looked forward to Christmas Caroling with the Simpson crew this annual event made his Christmas.
A proud member of Christ Episcopal Church in Forest City and a dedicated member of the Carbondale American Legion, Jerry found joy and friendship at Tuesday night bingo—followed by friendly competition at Wednesday night trivia. His quick wit, warm heart, and enduring spirit will be remembered always by all who were lucky enough to share in his life.
He is survived by his sons: Shawn Nagoda with whom he resided;and Jerry “Jay” Nagoda and his son Ryder; his stepchildren who he loved dearly: Randi (Iyoob) McCann and sons Richie and Robbie Leslie; and Josh Iyoob and his family. He was known as “Pow” to the grandchildren and others. Also surviving are his loving sisters: Juliann Doyle of Browndale; and Sandy Gaffrey of Bridgewater, NJ along with her husband James and daughters Faith and Grace. Jerry loved his two nieces so much. Also surviving is a brother Sam Nagoda and wife Kelly (his favorite sister-in-law) of Union Dale. He will be especially missed by his girlfriend and the love of his life Amy Becker and her daughter Camryn and son Jacob of Carbondale, who held a special place in his heart. Also surviving is his trusted employee, Ricky Kline, who he treated like a son.
