Gerald “Jay” Critchley, Jr., 65, of Carbondale, died Tuesday September 30th at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, the former Ellen Davis.
Born in Jersey City, NJ, son of Marian Mikloiche Critchley, Carbondale, and the late Gerald J. Critchley, Sr., he was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, Carbondale. He was a graduate of Carbondale Area High School. Prior to his illness, he was employed by McDonald’s Restaurant, Carbondale. He previously worked at Gentleman Janitor and also at his family’s business, Canaan Greenhouse, Carbondale. Jay was a well known local musician, playing as the drummer in the Critchley Brothers Band at numerous bars and events throughout the up-valley; he also previously played with his family in the band Nostalgia.
Also surviving are two brothers: William Critchley, Peckville; Michael Critchley and companion Kelly Knick, Carbondale; a sister: Patricia Gilroy and husband PJ, Carbondale; a niece: May Ellen Stanton; a nephew: James Wiggins; and numerous cousins.
The funeral will be Friday, October 3rd from the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. Interment will follow at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill. Friends may call Thursday, from 4 to 7 pm.
