Gladys Celita Samuel, 82, of St. Petersburg, FL, died Friday January 28th at the Suncoast Hospice Care Center Mid-Pinellas, Pinellas Park, FL. She was the widow of Wesley Samuel, Jr., who died in September 2016.
Born in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Juan E. and Maria Olivera Velez. Before moving to Florida after retirement in 2008, she was employed in management at the New Yorker Hotel in New York City. She was a beloved wife, mother, and friend who devoted most of her life to caring for and raising her six children. Gladys had a great sense of humor. She loved to play computer games, complete word search puzzles, and watch game shows in her spare time. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.
Surviving are her six children: Michael Samuel and wife Pilar; Kevin Samuel and wife Natasha; Wesley Samuel, III and wife Toni; Thirdson Samuel and wife Vernessa; Junie Kacer and husband Peter; and Nia Samuel; 18 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers: John and William Velez.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, February 5th at 2:30 pm in the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale. Interment, Hopedale Moravian Cemetery, Newfoundland. A viewing will be held Saturday, from 1 to 3 pm.
