Glenn David Black, 76, of Mayfield, entered peacefully into eternal rest on February 13th, 2026. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by his loving family and friends. He is survived by his wife, the former Jean Ann Yakmovitz.
Born in 1949, at Chelsea Naval Hospital, in Chelsea, MA, Glenn was the eldest of five children to the late Ervin and Rita Hebert Black. He grew up in Salem, MA, until his family relocated to Jermyn, PA, where he would later meet the love of his life and best friend, Jean Ann Yakmovitz. Glenn was a proud veteran of the United States Army, who dutifully served his country during the Vietnam War, and was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal. His love of country was only surpassed by his love of God and family, who he also defended and served. Glenn had a tremendous work ethic and was employed by Thomson Consumer Electronics (formerly RCA), in Dunmore, for 35 years. He also became a corrections officer, during the latter years of his career, at SCI Waymart, where he retired from in 2016.
Glenn was an avid fisherman and loved sports, particularly college and pro football. He was a huge Penn State fan and also part of the "49'er Faithful." Glenn was a loyal husband to Jean and, despite his ongoing battle with multiple myeloma, was her primary caretaker for over a year. A loving father and protector of his children, he instilled in them the core values of family, hard work, perseverance, and fighting the good fight. He loved spending his time with family and friends and will also be remembered for mixing up his favorite drink, "The Release Valve."
We would like to thank our extended family and friends who have been there for us during these trying times, particularly this past month while our father battled his cancer and multiple complications. Additionally, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to our father's oncology specialists, doctors, nurses, and palliative care team at Geisinger CMC.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his three children: daughter, Alison Rafter and husband, Schawn, Jessup; son, Ryan, and wife, Darlene, East Petersburg, PA; and son, Chad, and wife, Denise, of Throop. He is also survived by two brothers: John, Allison Park, PA; and Gary, Jermyn; two sisters: Janice Pitoniak, Jessup; and Sandy Depoti, Mayfield; his five grandchildren: K.C.; Carly; Mackenzie; Gianna; and Jenna; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Thursday February 19th with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Saint Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. Interment will follow at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill. Friends may call Thursday at the church from 9 am until mass time. Arrangements by the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale.
