Gloria Monturo Obituary

Gloria Frances Monturo (nee Berta), 91, of Honey Brook and formerly of Carbondale, passed away after a COVID-19 diagnosis on December 23rd at the Tel Hai Retirement Community, Honey Brook. She was the loving wife of 68 years of the late Samuel Joseph Monturo, who died April 9, 2018.

Born in Union City, New Jersey, daughter of the late Frank (Francesco) Berta and Angelina Berta (nee Scaglione), she and Sam were former members of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale. After graduating from Emerson High School, Gloria obtained her Diploma of Nursing in 1950 from Jersey City Medical Center School of Nursing, Jersey City, New Jersey.  She and Sam met when he was a patient at the hospital after his return from the war.  Gloria pursued her nursing work and continued at the hospital and in private practice until retirement and their move to Carbondale, where she and Sam lived in the house that he built for them.  Gloria loved gardening, crafting, knitting and crocheting, and most of all spending time with her three grandchildren.  The family, especially the grandchildren, will always remember the magical Christmas visits that she and Sam orchestrated for them every year.

Also surviving are her two loving daughters, Donna Monturo and husband, Joseph Lipton, of Wayne; and Cheryl Monturo and husband, Vincent Paul, of Exton; three grandchildren, Jacob Lipton and wife, Courtney Burgoyne Lipton, Nicholas Paul, and Isabella Paul; and several nieces and nephews and their children.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Velma Van Miert and Olga Berta.

To assure the safety and health of all family members during this time, the immediate family has chosen to hold a private entombment at Our Mother of Sorrows Mausoleum, Finch Hill, on Tuesday, December 29th where Gloria will join Sam in rest.  Family and friends will receive an invitation to a streaming mass to be held at a future date.  Arrangements by the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Gloria's memory may be made to Tel Hai Retirement Community through a memorial gift at https://www.telhai.org/give/tribute-giving/
