Guerdon Hunt Obituary

Guerdon Hunt, 75, of Carbondale, died Friday January 12th at the Regional Hospital of Scranton.  He is survived by his wife of 47 years, the former Margaret “Peggy” Brennan.

Born in Hancock, NY, son of the late Guerdon Everett and Elinor June Davis Hunt, he was raised on a farm in Lakewood, as he and his siblings helped their parents milk cows, bail hay, and work in the farm’s large garden.  He was a graduate of Preston Elementary School in Lakewood and  a 1967 graduate of Hancock Central High School.  Following graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corps.  He served two tours of duty in Vietnam, earning many medals, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, Vietnamese Service Medal with 4 stars, Combat Action Ribbon, and a Certificate of Commendation.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 221 in Carbondale.  Guerdon returned to school in 1982, attending Johnson Technical Institute, where he earned a degree in Machinist and Tool and Die Making.  He went on to work at Acker Drill in Clarks Summit before retiring from Prompton Tool Company in 2014.

In addition to his wife, also surviving are a daughter: Shannon Wysocki and husband Jack, Carbondale; four grandchildren: Haley Snyder and fiancé Jacob Tarbox; Scott Snyder, Jr.; Delilah Snyder; and Jack Wysocki; a great granddaughter: Brinley Tarbox; three brothers: Wayne Hunt, Lake Ariel; Dennis Hunt, Bryn Mawr; Evan Hunt, Henrico, VA; four sisters: Dawn Goodhardt, Hancock, NY; Audrey Hunt, Honesdale; JoAnn Ramnandan and husband Beharry, Lafayette, LA; Martha Trinca and husband David, Mechanicsberg, VA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a brother: Gary; and a sister; Theresa.

The funeral will be Thursday January 18th with a Blessing Service at 10 am in the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale.  Interment with military honors will follow in Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill.  Friends may call Wednesday, from 4 to 6 pm.
