Helen M. Willis Walsh, 88, of Carbondale, died Monday December 16th at the Carbondale Nursing Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Charles “Spider” Walsh, who died August 2, 2012.
Born in Carbondale, daughter of the late John and Catherine Hope Willis, she was a member of Saint Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. She was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Class of 1954, Carbondale. Prior to her retirement, she was employed at Price Insurance Agency, Carbondale; she was previously employed at Daystrom, Inc., Archbald. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, Carbondale. She was also active with the Class of ’54 Reunion Committee.
Helen was truly one of a kind. Aside from being an amazing cook, she will always be remembered as a woman of great faith, and known for her steadfast love and devotion to all of her family and friends.

Surviving are a son: Jamie Walsh and wife Anne, Carbondale; a daughter: Kellie Valvano and husband Guy, Dunmore; six grandchildren: Brooke Walsh; Colleen Walsh; Morgan Mantione; Mikenna Walsh; Charles Valvano; Madolyn Valvano; two great grandchildren: Salvatore Mantione and Jeremy Raider; a brother: John Willis, Gainesville, FL; a sister: Margaret Ashby, Myrtle Beach, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters and their husbands: Mary Perri and husband Anthony “Smacky”; Catherine “Snooky” Murray and husband Jack; a sister-in-law: Jen Willis; and a brother-in-law: Bob Ashby.
The funeral will be Saturday December 21st from the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Saint Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. Entombment, Our Mother of Sorrows Mausoleum, Finch Hill. Friends may call Friday, from 3 to 6 pm.
