J. Jack Bartholomay Grier, 76, of Newton Lake, died Thursday August 31st at Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest Hospital, Allentown.
Born in Carbondale, son of the late John Paul Grier and Freida Bartholomay Gerrity, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Carbondale. He was a 1964 graduate of Scranton Preparatory School, and he received his Bachelors Degree from the Pennsylvania State University in 1968 and his Masters Degree in Education from Wilkes University in 2002. Prior to retirement, he was employed by the Easton Area School District as an educator for 33 years. After retirement, he was a professor at Wilkes University, until retiring in 2018. He was a life member of the National Education Association, the Pennsylvania State Education Association, the Easton Area Education Association, and the NRA. He was also a member of the AARP, the AANR, the ACLU, and a supporter of Planned Parenthood.
The family would like to thank Dr. Martin Hyzinski and nurses Salley, Julie, and Laurie, and their staff for the excellent care given to Jack.
Surviving are his fiancée: Bonnie Mican, Newton Lake; a daughter: Melissa Clemens, Vershire, VT; two sons: Timothy Grier, Emmaus; Ryan Grier and wife Lee, Newton Lake; 7 grandchildren: Megan and husband Ben; Sara and husband Taylor; Emerson; Taylor; Julianna; Gia; and A. Magnolia; two great grandchildren: Patricia and Leia and one on the way; two step-grandchildren: Deborah Mican and husband Dennis Mullen; Marie Racht and husband Jim; three step-great grandchildren: Lydia Wilson and husband James; Zachary and Juliette Racht.
He was also preceded in death by a sister: Deborah Bartholomay Kozak.
The funeral will be Tuesday September 5th with services at 11 am in the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale. Interment will follow in Union Dale Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 9 am to service time.
