James Davis, 87, of Carbondale, died Wednesday October 12th at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Delores E. “Dolly” Auditori, who died June 27, 2019.
Born in Mayfield, son of the late James C. and Florence Pritchard Davis, he moved to the family farm in Union Dale at age 8, attending school in South Gibson and graduating from Harford High School, Class of 1952. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War, having been stationed in Germany. He had a long career in the painting and construction industry, having worked for Merritt Foster, Howard Tompkins, Gordon Postlethwaite, Chambers Painting and Christmas Trees, and Holt Lumber. In his youth, he played on several local softball and basketball teams in Susquehanna, Wayne, and Lackawanna Counties. He was a founding member of the Union Dale Fire Company, Past Master of the Elkdale Grange, and Past President of the Painters Local Union, Carbondale. He also enjoyed hunting.
Surviving are two daughters: Patty Wiggins and fiancé Bob McHale; Ellen Critchley and her husband Jay ; a grandson: James Wiggins all of Carbondale; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a brother: William Davis; and a sister: Eleanor Alexander.
The funeral will be Saturday October 15th in the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale, with services at 11 am by the Rev. Allan Rupert. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park, Montdale. Friends may call Friday, from 4 to 7 pm.
