Jane Kornutiak Obituary

Jane Hall Kornutiak, R.N., 82, of Chapman Lake, died Monday, October 17th after an extended illness.  She was the widow of Charles Kornutiak, who died December 20, 1994.

Born in Carbondale, daughter of the late Robert and Mair Davies Hall, she was a member of Christ the King Parish, Archbald.  Jane was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, Our Lady of Victory Nursing School, Lackawanna, NY, and Saint Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing, Carbondale, where she was the recipient of the school’s Literary Award and graduated cum laude.  She also attended Pennsylvania State University. As a registered nurse, Jane retired from Mercy Hospital, Scranton, where she worked in the Operating Room for 30 years.

Jane was a world traveler, always interested in different cultures, and had a particular love of Greece. She resided with her cats, Howard Johnson, Max, and BaBa, of whom she was extremely fond.  An avid supporter of choral music, Jane was a member of the Singers Guild of Scranton and the Choral Society of Northeastern Pennsylvania. She was the alto section leader of the NEPA Opera Company and a soloist at the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church, Scranton.

Surviving are three children: Roberta Kornutiak; Matthew Kornutiak and partner Steven Russell; Charles Kornutiak and wife Suzanne, all of Chapman Lake; three grandchildren: Madison, Amanda, and Elizabeth Kornutiak; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters; Lois Loftus and Margaret Mott; and a brother: Robert Hall.

The funeral will be Friday, October 21st, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Archbald.  Interment will follow in Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill. Friends may call at the church Friday morning from 9 am until mass. Arrangements by the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Choral Society of Northeastern Pennsylvania, 625  North Main Ave, Scranton, PA 18504.
