Jean Mitchell, 71, of Hallstead, died Monday November 18th at UHS Wilson Medical Center, Johnson City, NY.  She was the widow of James Broadfoot Mitchell, Jr., who died February 15, 2010.

Born in Wayne, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Lillian Scheland and Charles Mahn.  Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a home health aide for Trehab of Susquehanna County.  She and her husband were longtime foster parents, caring for numerous foster children over the years.  Jean loved each and every child that came through her doors.

Surviving are 8 children: Joseph Mitchell; Jenny Phillips; Jean Lewis; James Mitchell, III; Jada Mincer; Michael Mitchell; Destiny Hart; and Chris Mitchell; 15 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; the numerous foster children whom she cared for;  a sister: Ruthanne Rowland; a brother: Daniel Mahn; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was also preceded in death by a sister: Lillian Howard.

As per her request, private funeral services will be held.  Arrangements by the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main Street, Forest City.
