Jean M. Muir, 91, of Carbondale, died Sunday November 5th at the Carbondale Nursing Center. She was the widow of William James “Jimmy” Muir, who died January 30th.
Born in Carbondale, daughter of the late Edward and Ruth Harder Wigfall, she was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church, Carbondale, and a former member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Carbondale. Jean was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the former Ames Department Store, Carbondale. She was a member of the Andrew Mitchell Hose Co. #1 Ladies Auxiliary, and she enjoyed playing bingo with her friends at the South High Rise in Carbondale. She also enjoyed bowling and spending summers at the family cottage at Elk Lake, and she was an avid New York Yankees fan who never missed an opportunity to watch their games.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Carbondale Nursing Center as well as Dr. Tamrat Bekele, Theresa Micknick, and Dr. Neil Davis and their staffs, and Traditional Hospice for the care and compassion given to Jean.
Surviving are seven children: Nancy Grant and husband Peter, Hampstead, NC; James Muir and wife Donna, Milton, DE; Barbara Tolerico and husband Carl, Carbondale; Deb McNamara, Union Dale; Susan Muir and husband Donald Hoyle, Mayfield; Bob Muir and husband Jim Abbott, Herndon, VA; Kathie Nevins and husband Mike, Browndale; eleven grandchildren: Jennifer McDonald and husband John; Michael Tolerico; Geoff Grant and wife Ana; Nicole Wall and husband Bobby; Katie Haas and husband Jereme; Jesse Muir and wife Christine; Jamie Shinn and husband Sean Graham; Beth Austin and husband Larry; Matthew Nevins; Alex Hoyle; Luke Nevins; ten great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law: John McNamara; and a brother, Robert E. Wigfall.
The funeral will be Monday, November 13th with services at 11 am in the Trinity Episcopal Church, 58 River Street, Carbondale, to be celebrated by Rev. William McGinty. Interment will follow in Union Dale Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 10 am until service time. Arrangements by the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale.
