JoAnne Chambers, 76, of Carbondale, died Friday November 1st at Aventura at Terrace View, Blakely.  She was the widow of Mark L. Chambers, who died September 3, 2023.

Born in Carbondale, daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Mills Munley, she was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, Carbondale.  She was a graduate of Saint Rose High School, Carbondale, Class of 1966 and Marywood College.  She went on to receive her Doctorate in Education from the University of Pennsylvania, and she became a National Board Certified Reading Specialist.  Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a teacher and reading specialist in the Pocono Mountain School District.  She had also been employed by Wilson Learning Centers, and she was previously the Principal at the Lourdesmont School.  She was a member of the Pocono Mountain Education Association and the Pennsylvania State Education Association.  JoAnne was an excellent mother who loved to garden and plant.  She also enjoyed cooking.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Aventura at Terrace View and the nurses and staff of Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the compassionate care given to JoAnne.

Surviving are a son: Adair Chambers, Carbondale; a sister: Gerri Evans and husband Mark, Old Forge; a brother: Joseph Munley and wife Cindy, Wesley Chapel, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters: Rose Marie Cornell and Marcielle Barbour.

The funeral will be Thursday, November 7th  with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Saint Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale.  Interment will follow in Willow View Cemetery, Clifford.  Friends may call at the church from 9 am until mass time.  Arrangements by the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale.
