Joan Marie Guenther, 69, formerly of Mount Carmel, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 4th, at Forest City Nursing and Rehab Center, Forest City.

She was born on August 6, 1954 to the late Joseph V. Honecker and Lorraine Rolko Honecker of Mount Carmel.

She graduated from Mount Carmel High School in 1972. In 1977, she married John G. Guenther at Our Lady of Mount Carmel. They traveled the United States during his Naval service, eventually welcoming a son, Jason, in Florida, and a daughter, Heather, in California.

Joan worked as a bank teller in California, and after her divorce in 1990, she moved with her children back to Pennsylvania where she would spend a 30-year cashier career in supermarkets, serving BiLo in Atlas, Radzievich Market in Elysburg, and retiring at Weis Markets in Sunbury in 2019.

After retiring to Rockwell Retirement Center, she enjoyed spending time with friends and family - especially trips to the Bloomsburg Fair, PA Renaissance Fair, and Knoebels. She also loved bingo, soap operas, and live musicals.

Surviving are her loving daughter, Heather Guenther, of Archbald; son, Jason Guenther, and grandson, Landon Guenther, of Marietta; brother, Joseph Honecker, of Kulpmont; and a niece and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, James Honecker, in 2022.

Funeral services are pending and will be announced at a later date with interment in All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg. Arrangements by the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main Street, Forest City.
