Joanne Vantassell, 62, of Carbondale, died Monday September 28th at Geisinger CMC, Scranton.
Born in Brentwood, NY daughter of the late Robert and Rosemary Akel DeVries, she was a member of the Peckville Assembly of God Church. A graduate of Blue Ridge High School, she was a veteran of the US Army. She was an outspoken New York Yankees and New York Giants fan. She loved getting her hair and nails done, going out to dinner at Texas Roadhouse, and going to Walmart. She adored all of her friends from over the years. Joanne was taken away from us too soon. She fought her health battles courageously over the years.
Also surviving are a fiancé: Paul Olstein; a daughter: Jaime Sales and husband Gil; a son: Jason Vantassell and fiancée Audra; 6 grandchildren: Brandon, Bradley, and Brittney Sales; Landon, Teegan, and Brantley Vantassell; two brothers: Mike DeVries and wife Rose; Chris DeVries; a brother-in-law: Dana Jackson; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews; and her beloved cat Cupid, who brought her so much joy.
She was also preceded in death by a sister: Susan Jackson and a brother: Robert DeVries, Jr.
Due to COVID-19, private visitation and funeral services will be held. Arrangements by the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Ave., Carbondale.
