John Lyman Bohlig, Jr., 43, of Greenfield Twp., died Thursday December 8th at the Regional Hospital of Scranton after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife, the former Laura Slayton; the couple had been married for 17 years.
Born in Carbondale, son of the late John L. Bohlig, Sr. and Yvonne Coleman Bohlig, he was a member of Saint Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. He was a 1998 graduate of Lakeland High School. John attended Maywood University and was a graduate of the paramedic program at Luzerne County Community College. Prior to his illness, he was employed as the Paramedic Supervisor for Cottage Hose Ambulance Corps., Carbondale. He had previously worked at Rural Metro Ambulance, Genetti Manor, and as a ski instructor at Elk Mountain. In addition to being a 20 year member of the Cottage Hose Ambulance Corps., he was also a member of the Greenfield Twp. Volunteer Fire Company and the Throop Hose Company.
The family would like to thank Dr. Vitaly Geyfman and the staff at Great Valley Cardiology, the staff and nurses of the ER and ICU at the Regional Hospital of Scranton, and Cottage Hose Ambulance for the care and compassion shown towards John and his family.
In addition to his wife, also surviving are a son: John Bohlig, III, at home; a brother: Joseph Caviston, Jr. and wife Michelle, Carbondale; two sisters: Mary Bohlig, Carbondale; Joan Marie Curtis, Hamlin; his mother and father-in-law: Mark and Theresa Slayton, South Abington Twp.; a brother-in-law: Shaun Slayton and wife Amanda, Duryea; several nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, and cousins, and his EMS family across the area.
He was also preceded in death by an infant brother: Michael Caviston.
The funeral will be Tuesday December 13th from the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill. Friends may call Monday, from 3 to 6 pm.
