John Joseph Evola, 73, of Vandling, formerly of Staten Island, NY, passed away on July 14, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. His wife, the former Kathleen Curran, died in 2019.
Born in Staten Island, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Santa Accardi Evola. John was a family man through and through. John was a loving husband, devoted father, proud Pop Pop, loyal brother, cousin, uncle, and friend. He worked as a corrections officer at Rikers Island. After retirement, he owned his own restaurant, CJ's in Forest City, and then he enjoyed being a coach bus driver. He found joy in watching the Yankees, music, playing his bass guitar, and spending time outdoors - whether it was hunting, fishing, boating, or geocaching; but nothing made him light up more than spending time with his grandchildren and family. He was always good for a story, a joke, or just sitting back and enjoying the people around him. Quick-witted, selfless, and full of heart, he put everyone else before himself and left a mark on everyone he met.
He is survived by his children: John Thomas Evola and wife Heather, Carbondale; Kerrie Ann Richards and husband Greg, Washingtonville, NY. He is lovingly remembered by his 3 grandchildren: Kaelyn, Brea and Connor; his partner: Barbara Osborne; his siblings: Robert and Amelia Evola, Linda Preuninger, Sandy and Larry Sgarlata, Kenneth and Luann Evola, his sister-in-law Patricia and Louis Giovanniello, and many extended family members and dear friends.
A blessing service will be held Thursday July 17th at 5 pm in the Jones and Brennan Funeral Home , 430 Main Street Forest City. Friends may call Thursday from 3 pm to 5 pm.
Memorial donations may be made in John's name to Fox Chase Cancer Center Main Campus, 333 Cottman Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19111-2497.
