John Kostiak, 95, of Carbondale, died Sunday August 2nd at the Carbondale Nursing Center. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo Sirianni Kostiak, who died July 18, 2019.
Born in Mayfield, son of the late Stephen and Mary Wahal Kostiak, he was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, Carbondale. He was a graduate of Jermyn High School. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Specialty Records, Olyphant. He was previously employed by Hendrick Manufacturing and as a maintenance worker at the Lackawanna North Vo-Tech Center. John enjoyed gardening, especially harvesting garlic, and he took great pride in the upkeep of his home. “Bompa” loved his family and his two cats, Mimi and Mateo. For many years, he also enjoyed hanging out with his Allied Services crew.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Carbondale Nursing Center for their compassionate and excellent care.
Surviving are two daughters: Lorraine Ondrako and husband Richard, Archbald; Rosann Fields and husband Robert, Witherbee, NY; a son: Stephen Kostiak and wife Julie, Carbondale; three grandchildren: Emma Holden and husband Marty; Stephen Kostiak, Jr.; and Lily Rose Fields; two great grandchildren: Jameson and Cameron Holden; a brother: Paul Kostiak, Jermyn; a sister: Delores Brophy, Jermyn; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Friday, August 7th with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Fallbrook St., Carbondale. Entombment will be held at a later date at Our Mother of Sorrows Mausoleum, Finch Hill. Friends may call at the church on Friday morning from 9 am until mass time. Arrangements by the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale.
